EXAMPLE BOOK PROJECT, DONE TO THE HUNGER GAMES:
Name: Gene Yes
Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
CHARACTERIZATION:
Katniss is the main character. She has long hair that her mother has braided for the reaping, so it is long enough to braid. She is probably thin because where she lives, food is hard to come by. She is loving towards her sister because she volunteered to take her place in the Hunger Games. She is also brave for doing that because the Hunger Games is a game in which she might die. She is also brave because she sneaks into the forest to hunt, which is against the law.
SETTING:
The setting is in the future as it talks about the United States having had a big war and new lines were drawn from the old states to form 13 Districts instead. The story takes place at first in District 12 where Katniss is from. She then goes to the Capitol for a while, and then on to the area where the Hunger Games takes place. The rest of the story takes place there.
CONFLICT:
In this society, some of the Districts are being oppressed by the Capitol. They don't have enough food, and each year, two youth from each district are selected to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. Katniss's sister, Prim, is chosen, but Katniss volunteers for her. So now Katniss has to fight in the Hunger Games and may die.
RESOLUTION:
Katniss and the boy from her district, Peeta, form an alliance while fighting in the games. A new rule is given where there can be two winners if they are from the same district. Katniss and Peeta are the last two, and then the District tries to make them kill each other, but they don't. Katniss has a plan to fake their suicide together, and because the Hunger Games is televised to all of the districts, the gamemakers don't want bad publicity, so they allow them both to win after all. So, Katniss and Peeta live.
